Yelle is a French pop sensation. I’m pretty sure I discovered Yelle about two years ago while popping from one iTunes user mix to another following the path of the perfect playlist. Suddenly I stopped, what was this strange song. I barely understood even one word but the words and beat, they were excellent. That song was “Cause des Garçons”, which according to Babelfish means ‘Cause Boys’. I don’t know what she means by that, but when you really think about it, even in the best pop songs the lyrics rarely matter. No disrespect meant to miss Yelle, I’m sure her songs are deeply personal creations or something. To the non-Persian though, it’s really just how well Yelle carries a tune, and she carries it like a pro running-back making record yards in the big game. From that one song I linked to her album ‘Pop Up’ and listened to maybe one or two more samples before buying the album and never looking back.
I haven’t heard anything from Yelle since 2007, but I keep listening to Pop Up and hoping that someday she will release a new album and blow me away again.
