Weezer – Raditude (Deluxe Edition)

Weezer – Raditude (Deluxe Edition)

Rating: ★★★★☆

Let me just start off by saying that ‘Raditude’, in my opinion, does not have the pop standouts of past Weezer releases. That does not mean that Rivers and the rest of the band have let anything slide on this latest release, just that ‘Raditude’ may be a little more grown up than many of their biggest albums.

The songs on ‘Raditude’ are more overtly sentimental than most Weezer releases. That’s not to say that Weezer has lost their fun factor, but that this one maybe more comparable to 1996′s ‘Pinkerton’. There are plenty of exceptions here, like the fun yet frivolousness of “Can’t Stop Partying” and “I’m Your Daddy”. Overall each song has the marks of River Cuomo’s brilliant songwriting, but this time out it’s less quirk and more honest story telling. Their songs are still infectious with great beats and hooks. Songs like, “(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To”, “Put Me Back Together”, and “I Don’t Want To Let You Go” will likely make your personal “best of” playlist. Also, “Get Me Some” is a surprisingly rockin’ in-your-face bonus available only on disc two of the deluxe edition along with three more great extra songs.

Listening to ‘Raditude’ again now while I am writing this review, I am sure that I will be enjoying it for year to come. Its’ a solid release from an band who has proven themselves to fans and still garners new fans with each new album.
