Staind – Staind

Staind's latest self-titled album is one not to be missed

Rating: ★★★★☆

Sticking to a tried and true formula Staind might have just released the Best hard rock album of 2011. The hallmark instrumental and technical talent of Staind is on display in a way fans may not have heard before. All ten tracks are perfect examples of modern hard rock.  The Massachusetts hard rock outfit has never sounded more inspired.

“Eyes Wide Open,” track 2 on the album, is where things really kick off. Johnny April’s dense bass line kicks the song off, add in Mike Mushok’s guitar battery, and singer Aaron Lewis’s unbridled scream what your left with is a powerhouse tune with a chorus that will invade your brain and never leave.

The first single, “Not Again,” eases you into some seriously heavy, chugging guitars with something of a dark bluesy opening. Lewis’s vocal performance is outstanding as always.  This arena-ready track will no doubt be a crowd pleaser.

Staind has been a standout band since the release of “Dysfunction” in 1999. Even the band’s radio hits, while not sharing the same intensity as the albums they were a part of, seemed to fit like a glove. The same can be said about the band’s latest release. Honesty and a tradition of superb hard rock albums keep Staind a relevant band to this day.

About Jeff M.

Jeff M. grew up in southern Alabama where he was a minority in his community for his open beliefs and love of Hard Rock & Metal. In his twenties, Jeff left the confines of his hometown and toured the southern United States as a drummer in a rock band. It was at this time that he began to develop his passion for beer & boiled peanuts. A passion that, along with his love of music would help to shape into the man he is today. In the battle between "The Road" and the love of his woman, his woman prevailed. So he married his sweetheart, packed his hellfire red Ford Ranger, and made his way to the Arizona desert, where still resided today. Jeff, formerly Maulermithel, began writing reviews and interviews for Little Rat Bastard in the fall of 2009 and has become one our primary regular contributors. Powered by Rooster Booster energy drink & his desire to rock he puts his opinions out there for the our readers consideration month after month.
