Dead Sara – Dead Sara

There’s no way to pin a label on Dead Sara. The band’s sound ranges from radio friendly pop to metal, punk, southern rock, and back again.

Rating: ★★★★½

Dead Sara is set to take the world by storm with the release of the band’s self-titled album coming in August.  This unique and innovative group is fronted by a pair of powerhouse Lady Rockers. Emily Armstrong’s raspy, sultry vocal style can be described as nothing short of electrifying, while guitarist Siouxsie Medley’s dynamic guitar work should drive Dead Sara to the lofty heights of the Rock World.

There’s no way to pin a label on Dead Sara.  The band’s sound ranges from radio friendly pop to metal, punk, southern rock, and back again.  Their diversity of sound is what will give Dead Sara the edge in overall appeal that a lot of bands lack.  Armstrong’s voice is so complex, varying from the softest vocal to a raspy scream reminiscent of the early rock goddesses that came before her.

Every song on Dead Sara’s self titles album has a unique sound.  A little something that makes it sound different from the track before.  Each tune has a personal feel to it like we are getting a glimpse into the hearts and minds of the band.  ‘Weatherman’ brandishes a real southern rock appeal its loaded with astonishing guitar work and amazing chord changes.  Again Emily Armstrong’s vocals are simply out of this world.  Even when Dead Sara slows things down with tracks like ‘Dear Love’ and ‘Sorry for it All’ the songs are no less potent and the vocals no less brilliant.  ‘I Said You Were Lucky’ and ‘Monumental Holiday’ are a pair of down and dirty Rock tracks and definitely the hardest songs on the record that are just masterfully played.  ‘We are What You Say’ is probably the most radio friendly single on the record, its approachable while holding its own between harder and more intricate tracks.  I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Chris Null and Sean Friday the steadfast rhythm section of Dead Sara.  Together with Armstrong and Medley they make Dead Sara a captivating Rock troop.

About Jeff M.

Jeff M. grew up in southern Alabama where he was a minority in his community for his open beliefs and love of Hard Rock & Metal. In his twenties, Jeff left the confines of his hometown and toured the southern United States as a drummer in a rock band. It was at this time that he began to develop his passion for beer & boiled peanuts. A passion that, along with his love of music would help to shape into the man he is today. In the battle between "The Road" and the love of his woman, his woman prevailed. So he married his sweetheart, packed his hellfire red Ford Ranger, and made his way to the Arizona desert, where still resided today. Jeff, formerly Maulermithel, began writing reviews and interviews for Little Rat Bastard in the fall of 2009 and has become one our primary regular contributors. Powered by Rooster Booster energy drink & his desire to rock he puts his opinions out there for the our readers consideration month after month.
